| Description: The Ice plant
is makes a great ground cover and can also be used as a filler in containers.
This hardy plant is both tolerant of blazing summer heat and cold. The trailing
pink-flowered form is known as Drosanthemum floribundum. The darker purple forms
are Drosanthemum hispidum and Drosanthemum speciosum. All species of ice plants
have small pill-shaped green leaves with tiny glands that gleam like ice
crystals. Bloom period lasts from November to April. Grows 2' high to 6' wide.
Maintenance: Water established plants once every week or two while
they are growing and blooming if rainfall is scarce. Reduce watering to every
three weeks in the hot summer months. Ice plants are semi-dormant in the hot
weather. |
